Im headed to grand bahama in a week and have a day booked with perry demeritte. This will be my first time hunting bonefish. Just wondering if anyone has any advice, and if anybody has been down there in february. I know feb. isnt the best time to fish in bahamas but understand that there is still opportunity to be had.

Actually a great time for big fish. I went a month ago and had some great days with a few big fish, with Perry and on my own. You can't do any better than Perry, as a guide or a person. Enjoy and tell him his Brother from another Mother says hi!

ditto on perry. i've been fishing with him since he began guiding on his own. i know this will sound like one of those fishermen's stories, but you can ask perry-my buddy and i were his first private guiding clients.

anyway, enough bragging. februay will be good. the only issues could be wind, but there's plenty of fish. perry knows how to get you into a leeward area. like mark suggests, you'll not find a more highly professional guide anywhere.

as for advise, make sure you have polarised glasses-two pair if you can, one for low light conditions in case it gets cloudy or overcast. you'll need to see the fish in order to make a go of it. i always bring a 10 or 12 wt for sharks. lots of fun and relatively easy to catch. not a bad alternative or break especially if you're having trouble seeing the bones. use perry's flies. every year they outcatch anything and everything we bring.

good luck and have a ball.
