While we enjoy ice fishing, we have not been able to do a lot of it over the last few years because my son and daughter play ice hockey. As you hockey parents know, most of your day is spent in hockey rinks. We finally had some daylight this Sunday and the weather was perfect so we planned to go after the 12:30 game. We got back into town until around 2:00. Ran over to a local store to get shiners and license, closed!. Kids very disappointed. My wife suggested local chain sports store, but they don't carry bait or fishing licenses. Then I remembered the Natick Outoor store and they saved the day. Love that store.

We got onto the lake around 3 PM on Sunday, so unfortunately I don't have a lot to report. In the interest of time we reused previously drilled holes and only put in 4 traps using meduim sized shiners. We had one flag go up and a fish take us into the weeds. Unfortunately we lost it. I spoke with the one remaing ice fisherman around dusk and he had decent action including a jigged crappie. Most of the fish he caught were pickeral.

One interesting sight was two guys cutting the ice into blocks with a big rusty saw. They cut out a nice 5 x 10 square and put the blocks around the edges. I think they were just doing it for fun, but the kids got a kick out of it.

Hey, thanks for the post! I live in Sudbury and have been looking for a good local bait shop since the Bait Bucket in Waltham closed!
