Went out this past Tuesday to my friend's lakes, he had been scouting the day before and told me that the peacocks were sunning themselves in the shallows in the mornings.... I needed to christen my new 4wt so I headed down to check it out. They were there, and christen the rod I did - my second biggest pea yet, about 4-5 lbs and he was a little skinny! Great fun on the 4wt though. Also got a decent largemouth and some smaller peacocks.

Is that zonker strip or bucktail on that fly?

The olive and yellow are bucktail that I put stripes on with a marker, and the orange is marabou. Its my baby peacock pattern that I need to tweak a little, but it seems to work pretty good. I got a solid 5 lb fish on it back last spring too on its first field test. I was really surprised to be able to throw that on my 4wt!

Thanks a lot - I'll be down in July and will have a few peacock flies on hand. While I'll be primarily saltwater fishing, I'm definitely putting a little time aside for those.

Thats no good! What kind of fish? I was going to go out for tarpon tonight but didnt see one all day at the marina, even when the boats came back in to clean fish. Not good.

I was up around PineCrest area on horse trail...usually see typical things there but dead peacocks and dead talapia were washing down the canal with the flow...the carp were schooled up hard together and deep...any fish I seen such as large pickeral were glued to the bottom and simply wouldnt move, even when directly "hit" with a fly...this morning I did see the jacks were working the edges again but its still cold as you know...poor snook probably took a pounding and if they survived the cold surely they were SNAGGED and taken by the usual suspects here in miami/homestead
