Any recent Eleuthera bonefish reports? I'm thinking of returning there after a 4 year hiatus.
Thank you.

Fished 2 weeks January 09, 1st week with son, 2nd week with group of friends. You'll be glad to hear Eleuthera hasn't changed much in 4 years and that's probably a good thing.
Those of us looking for bones found them in decent numbers on 'drive to' flats we visited. Timing and great weather came into play.
Had good fishing walking distance from our rental at the Duck Inn. Can't wait to return next year.

Max..Nice pics. I was there just about 2 years ago and stayed at the Duck Inn. Great place to stay. John is one heck of a nice guy...and his dog taco. Seeing some of those pics brought back some good memories. Some day I will get back there.

Sage, glad you enjoyed them, thanks for the compliment. All is well with John, Kati and their staff at the Duck Inn. Unfortunately our fishing buddy Taco passed away last year. He has been replaced with a tribe of great pet dogs, it's just not quite the same without him.

Sorry to hear about Taco. If I remember correctly he love to attack obstacles that had 4 wheels and weighed a few thousand pounds. Great companion for those nightly walks down to the water.

Max,
Enjoyed the photos. I sometimes target cuda with a fly but if not I always have a spinning rod handy with a green tube lure. If a cuda is fired up he will come from a mile away to attack those things.
Walt-what kind of tube lure? I usually throw long green clousers at them with a long shank hook. They sure do seem to like green. Last year I had a couple all charged up on a yelloy bluefish fly that I like.

Lee,
I was talking about using the green surgical tube lures, with spinning tackle, like the ones in Max's photos. If targeting them with flies I use tandom hooks inside green mylar tubing of some type, tie off and fray the tail and stick some eyes on it. Something like the Orvis barracuda fly.
Walt
Got it. I have to get something like that-it looks like a small tube you could use on a bass. I'll have a spinning rod for my son and he'd love to catch a barrcuda-he's six.
Thanks.
I ordered some green tube lure this morning-thanks for the help.
Walt, how do you attach the second hook when using tandem flies? I've never liked the way they've looked but inside mylar tubing should be fine. That's why I've always used long shank hooks instead.

I just returned last night from the Big E. We stayed in Double Bay but I fished mostly at Savannah Sound, some areas I had previously fished had been bought by developers an the access roads blocked off. I caught a fair number of bones and definately the largest Bahama bones to date. One afternoon I took one fish that was 27" and a second that was 28". I hooked a third that was larger than those but he got into the deep water a bull shark started hounding him so I broke him off. All fish on flies. Some intel from the locals stated that the deep water in Savannah has some really large cuda. Some time spent with those green tubes may be worthwhile.

Catspaw -
Were the blocked-off roads on Windermere or the Savannah Sound side?
Thanks,

The roads that were blocked off were farther south, Jacks Bay and more remote creek on the Atlantic side near Rock Sound. Savannah is still open.

Lee,
I keep it pretty simple. I use a variation of a king fish rig, used in NC, with stranded wire. You can just tie the hooks on with figure 8 knots with that stuff. I use a long shank hook for the first one, fit it into the mylar and tie it off so its straignt and use glue to keep it attached solid. The other one you just push the wire out of the mylar tubing at the right place, tie the hook on with another figure 8, trim it and pull it back into the tubing. You just have to mess with it to learn how to get it in and keep it straight.
Check this out and I think you will see what I am talking about.

Tin Boat, adding to Catspaw's Savannah sound access reply. The roads dept were in the last stages of paving/hardtopping the subdivision and the 2 access roads from the highway to the schoolyard flat parking area. A straight drive in without dodging those tie rod eating craters was a welcome improvement.
We fished the flats a couple of times with great success, but no monsters like his heheh.

Thanks Max and Catspaw, and I'm happy to hear that Savannah Sound is still fishing well.
Years ago I had wonderful bonefishing on the GH airport flat with vast schools of 3 to 5 pounders and an occasional trophy fish of up to 10 pounds. Then they seemed to vanish, replaced by big sharks and packs of nasty wild dogs. What's the story there now?
