View Full Version : Sea Hunt 202
Anyone have any experience with the 20 ft Sea Hunt model 202??
My main concern relates to how it will ride ..... anyone with experience running one would be greatly appreciated.
Any other comments appreciated ......

I believe gaffman and stingray run a 202 and I believe they like it a lot. I've run with them to the bank a couple of times and the seahunt does well in chop and building seas. Quality looks to be high too.

I have run the Sea Hunt 212 cc w/150 Yammy 4 stroke for 3 years. I like it a lot. Handles seas well, enough creature comforts (portapotti in console) that it is a good family cruising boat as well. I often take it to the BC buoy off Chatham. The boat is tougher than I am....:brow

I have a 212 as well with the 150 two stroke. LOVE IT. Feel free to ask any specific questions.
Thanks for the inputs ... great info.
I am actually looking at an few year old 202 (they changed the design in the fall of 2008 but kept the same model number). The guy I spoke to at Sea Hunt said the 202 was made by shortening the 212 plug, so he felt it was a good comparison, in spite of the 212 obviously being larger. For example they both have a 18 degree dead rise.
I was really hoping for first hand input on how the boat performs around here, which you guys have provided. Info on an actual 202 would be great!
Did you SH owners find the fit and finish to be great, good, fair or poor? In reading their propaganda, they say they use SS hardware with backing plates and SS fasteners .......
Looking for a good nuts and bolts boat that rides well. Don't really care about frills ........
One more thing .... do you guys have trim tabs? Do you think they are a "must"?
Thanks again for all your replies ......

You were asking about a May-Craft 19 exactly a year ago, as I recall.
The Sea Hunt 202 is a bit of an improvement over the May-Craft in terms of fit and finish and amenities, but that's not always a good thing. Simpler is sometimes better.
There used to be a guy from NH on one of these fishing boards who had a Sea Hunt 200 or 202 with a Yamaha 115. He fished out of Hampton and Newburyport and was very pleased with the boat. I forget his name, maybe someone else will remember.
The Sea Hunts are pretty popular around here because there are/were dealers in Dedham, Hooksett and York. The boat that FireFly mentioned above is actually a 220, so that's a bit bigger.
I don't know what you are looking to spend, but I know of 2 late model McKee Craft 196s for sale in New England for around $19K and that boat is a big step up from the Sea Hunt 202 in terms of performance and refinement. I owned the first 196 sold north of Boston for 3 seasons and several of the folks here can vouch for the quality and performance of that boat.

Boat: 2005 212 bought used last spring, I'm the second owner.
Fishing: Salem Sound to Stellwagen
Engine: 2 Stroke 150 yam, top speed 41mph, cruise at 27-30, avg mpg 2.5 over the entire summer
Trim Tabs: Don't have them, but want to add. They're not a "must have" but I'd love to drive my 50 degree entry into some of the 2' chop we get in the sound vs. the 18 degree transom.
Fit/Finish: I've been pleased. Console is nice, wiring is OK, hardware seems good (some screws loosening from nuts, but easy fix on the hatches. No issues with T-Top etc.) Only real complaint is the gunnel rod racks. Won't hold any decent length rod, need to investigate more this spring.
