I'm a guide from Utah originally from New England I was wondering if any one knew if there were fishing oppurtunities at the Park where you can camp and rent canoes on long Lake key? I'm coming to Florida from the 5th of march to the 12th. I'll be hanging in Ft. Lauderdale then driving down to the keys to maybe stay at Big Pine Key. I noticed this back water lake that you practically drive over and found that there is a state park there that rents canoes for only $10 bucks a day. It looks very interesting. There is also camping there for $23.
Any updated info would be great on fishing anywhere from Ft. L to the Keys. I currently guide in Utah and fish all over the rockies and some of Patagonia. I've done quite a bit of New england Saltwater and some tarpon and Bonefising, so any info would be much appreciated. Thanks all for your time. Oh by the way I like to catch anything that swims so if there is something that will fall for a fly I'm not picky I just like to be out there in new environs.

Erik,

Go to thefloridakeys.com/parks. Here's an example:

LONG KEY STATE RECREATION AREA

Long Key m.m. 67.5
Telephone number: (305) 664-4815
Camping: yes
Boat Ramp: no
Concessions: no
Pets: yes, in day-use area only, not in Camping Area.
Equipment Rentals: canoes
Activities: fishing, snorkeling, swimming, picnic area, nature trail.
Comments: one of the few state parks that allow campfires. Admission is $3.25 per vehicle and .50 per person. Offers natural shoreline for swimming & snorkeling. Quiet, peaceful park.

Yes they do rent canoes at Long Key State Receation Area. Bahia Honda State Park is a also a great bet for camping, fishing at the north end of the beach and paddling.

You mean Long Key State Park. There is camping. no bioat ramp. You can try right there for Cudas and small sharks but it is not the best wading in the Keys due to the soft bottom.

Best bet would be to rent a Kayak, canoe and get out along the south side.

Do you have availability for trips? I think I'm going to rent a canoe at the park and have a paddle, I read that there is a flat near there maybe through the lake on the canoe trail.
I want to take a guide out for one day during my trip somewhere on the keys, and then try to catch some fish on my own probably kayaking. I was thinking about staying at Old wooden bridge cottages. Again thanks for the prompt response.
