I just returned from a trip to Cancun where I fished the Nichupte Lagoon for 2 half day charters .It was very windy the entire time I was there which made casting frustrating to say the least. In the end I think it was a good thing because I feel that my casting skills have greatly improved. The fishing was a mix of sight casting on the flats to snook and occasional bonefish and casting to the edge of the mangroves to baby tarpon. I struck out the first day and the second day was rescheduled from Mon. to Wed. afternoon due to wind. Wed. turned out to be the day. I jumped 2 Tarpon and landed 2 in about 20 minutes in the mangroves at dusk.I fished on a 17ft. Mav. Mirage. That is one sweet boat! I used my 8 and 10 wt. rods but the charter has excellent equipment available. I highly recommend this trip for anyone who is in the Cancun area. You get 6 solid hrs. of fishing in the hotel zone(Very spouse friendly!) Mike

Did you fish with Rodman?

Mark, I did not fish with Rodman. I tried to contact him last Aug. when I was there but he did not reply to several e-mails. The company that I fished with this trip was excellent. I will use them again.I can give you the name if you e-mail me. I don't think I am allowed to post that on this forum. Mike

Fished with Rodman Hunter about 10 years ago on one of my first ever saltwater fly fishing excursions. caught a small bone and snook but didn't get into any tarpon. Since that trip, I've been severly afflicted with bonefish addiction and have fished all over the Caribbean chasing those guys.

Hey Mike,
I will be heading down to Cancun area at end of month and was looking into hiring Rodman Hunter for a charter. Before I finalize, I was wondering if you could pass on your info on who you used since you say you would recommend your guy. Either here or a PM is fine.

Thank you.

for this report. I think that, after Nassau, Cancun is the #1 most asked question for "incidental" fishing information (i.e. fishing is not your primary reason for trip). Good to hear you pulled it off.

WJ, Cancun really does have great opportunities for flats fishing that doesn't involve long drives and all day commitments. There are several good companies to choose from at reasonable prices. Mike
