Heading to Grand Cayman in March. Staying at the Marriott on Seven Mile Beach. Any advice for fishing 1) in general and 2) recommendations for a guide (flats or deep water or both). Not sure if fishing is allowed from the shore.

Heading to Grand Cayman in March.
I'll be there at about the same time. I've booked 1/2 day of flats fishing with Ronald Ebanks (flyfish@candw.ky) on March 26. I said I wanted to book a day, but 1/2 day seems to be what he does. http://www.flyfishgrandcayman.com.

He'll give advise on where to go for D.I.Y. Capt. Ebanks seems to be the only game in town for the flats, which probably says something about the fishing. Ya' know what they say: if your wife is gonna' like a place, the fishing's probably lousy.

Don't be too hasty. My 11 year old and I went out with Capt. Ebanks last month and had a nice, relaxing trip. My son had a serious runoff on a crab (broke off on a coral head) and I got more shots in three hours at (admittedly picky) bones than I did in two full day Keys trips on a flats skiff.

Ron , like everyone else on the Island is very relaxed, so just go and have some fun. Just practice casting in the wind.

Tight lines - let us know how you do.

Was on GC last Feb and got a little bonefishing in around the Cayman Kai area. Look on Google maps and you'll see the sandy area where there's a flat that you can DIY. I only got to fish a little while but did see some bones. There's also a cool bar over there on the marina side to have eats/drinks. On the east end of the island, there's some resorts with piers where the 'pet' tarpon hang out. I wouldn't recommend seeing them because it does absolutely no good for a flyfisherman to not be able to take a cast.

Little Cayman (spent 4 days there) has bonefish and tarpon opps. see pics.

I have an email in to Ronald Ebanks as well, potentially looking for a half or full day on the flats. Any other feeback out there? Much appreciated.

I charted a half day with a grandson of the Ebanks last year, we went out to 7 mile bank and caught a nice yellowfin 80lbs, slow day but beautiful water

a grandson of the Ebanks
Note that 1/4 of the native population of Grand Cayman is named Ebanks. I originally spoke with another Ebanks who had been a guide. He recommended Ronald Ebanks who is not related to him.
