Staying at the Hilton in Daytona Beach. I stuck my spinning rod, castmaster, sluggos, and a plug in my bag. Is it worth tossing some tin or 'gos off the beach? Seems awefully shallow a good ways out, but the pier may be a bit more enticing.

Also, any recommendations for a guide in this area if I happen to steal a day this week?

Thanks,
Nick

Of course it is. Fishing anytime is always better than doing most anything else. Should be little Bluefish, Whiting and Pompano in the surf. Use the smallest silver or gold lure you can toss. Don't cast straight out but at 45 degree angle to the beach and retrieve it through the rollers.

It's early for trout, snook, King and Spanish mackerel but, who knows?

Nick,

About an hour south you can hook up with John Kumiski for some redfishing in the Mosquito River lagoon.

I'd recomment Kumiski too. My favorite guide for the Banana River, Merritt Island No Motor zone and Mosquito Lagoon. Sorry I left that out of my post above.

Hey there,

March 4th, I just went fishing with Capt. Jim Ross near Cocoa Beach. Great guy, worked very hard, but the fish were super tight-lipped due to the high barometric pressure.

Call him, big reds and some trout. More importantly, There might be COBIA on the beach! sight casting to big fish is the way to go. well worth the money if they are on the beaches.

Good luck,

Chris
