Did some kayak fishing yesterday for some trout. Locally stocked water in Metrowest area. I wanted to do a test run on all the gear and just fish open water. Water temps were 42 degrees and warmer than the air temps. With the high winds it was cold, though I was dressed well. I got cold once I beached the kayak and shed the layers.
I fished Sunday afternoon until dark and landed one stockie, lost two others. Fishing was slow on shore from what I could tell. The fish were all caught within a short distance from the ramp, surprise surprise. Not a nibble once I moved away.
I was casting and trolling wolly buggers on a sinking line. Surprisingly enough one came up and went after the fly when it was trolling high in the water. He missed. Olive seemed to be the color of choice.
