My friend Jim and I fished the Indian River Lagoon just west of the Haulover Canal last Thursday. It was raining at dawn and that contributed to a fine fishing day. We found plenty of tailing Redfish in the skinny waters along shore and a few Trout near dropoffs. Jim used a DOA shrimp and I fished a large tan Muddler to take 4-5 each.
Thoroughly soaked from intermittant showers, we hauled my canoe and his kayak out about 1 PM.

Therese and I recently rebuilt a 1968 Merrimack canoe and this was it's first trip out. She an original Osprey model - is 12.5 ft. with a 30" beam and near flat bottom with little rocker. Paddles fine and polls beautifully solo. Stable enough to cast standing in calm conditions like where we fished. If you fall over there, you just stand up and climb back in. The Reds were often tailing in water 6" - 8" deep - spooky as hell but, catchable.
