Peach Devil

I just knew that I had caught my first "Peach Devil".
But John was quick to point to the tail and inform me I had captured an Oscar.

Have any of you guys ever seen an Oscar this color before?

This is what we were after....Red Devils. Look at the hump on his head. They get aggressive during spawning season.

Thats an "albino" oscar which are normally sold in pet stores, which is probably where that one came from originally. The other red devils I believe are actually called Midas cichlids. They are normally not very aggressive, but around their beds they become territorial. I'm not sure if they are the same as what is sold in pet stores as red devils though. I still havent caught an oscar yet, nice job!

Thanks for the information on the Oscar. That i didn't know.

Your right about the Red Devil. People are always dumping their aquariums into the lake when they get tired of them. We probably have more aquarium fish in the lake than in most pet stores. The tropical fish have ideal conditions and lots of room to grow.

At times the red devils are verry aggressive and will hit any lure or fly within 3 feet of them.... fight over it. This is usually in the summer. Like the peacock bass, RD like warm water.

At other times they will run away if you cast near them. Some times you can hit them on the head and they will ignore you.

Red Devil are fun to fish for because it's just about all site fishing. They stay in very shallow water right against the shore and the bright red and orange color makes them easy to spot.
