absurd bordering on rediculous discovery show style off North Captiva today, Ganets diving next to Pelicans, terns and gulls fighting over bait leaping from the water, spanish leaping through the birds, kings slashing 6-8' accross the surface, ablies doing a nutty white water show, sharks eating them... oh the horror.

Yea dude, with these crazy March winds we are having right now it is all about the Grady White. I am fishing off the beach when I can and also wade fishing the edge of the flats with the fly rod. Snook, Reds, Jacks, and Sheepshead are around in good numbers when they feel like feeding. I was wade fishing this week with a guy from the east coast of florida who was here in Boca on Vacation. Almost as soon as we stepped off of the boat a massive sting ray comes gliding accross the white sand bottom 100 yards infront of us. As I am pointing it out to the client I see there is something swimming with it. Frantically I am pointing and saying strip out line, quick, quick. The ray swims 15' away from us and spooks in a big circle around both of us and there is a 20 lb. Cobia 30' down wind over a bright sandy bottom just slowly moving, looking for the ray. We get one cast off and the Cobia darts over and eats the little shrimp fly. I am freaking out ! yelling set the hook, set the hook, and as the Cobia turns he gets the 12 lb. leader around his tail and snap.... oh well, it sure was a cool shot on that bright sand in the middle of the day. Maybe we will get more shots like that in the next couple weeks.
