I'll troll small (not the smallest) Rapalas over anything for stocked trout. Try them w/ spoons, spinners & flies, and see which gets hit the most.

Black Panther Martin with yellow dots seems to always work when I'm not throwing flys. And it's worked in several areas of the country for me too so I think there's something about it that just triggers the trout.

Thats funny....the hot spinner in my area has always been the yellow w/ black dots Rooster Tails. Spag's could never keep them in stock....but now it's a Bld. 19 that is only open fri to sun
Come to thing of it Block Buster across the corner just closed too....

I was always partial to the Panther Martin too. I found the leaf spun better, was more easily worked in an eratic retrieve, and casts better due to more weight.
Spag's.....Now there's a blast from the past.:browWhen I was a kid, my entire box of trout lures was bought at Spags. He'd get his new fresh water inventory in about this time of year (fishing season would close on Feb 28 and reopen the 3rd Sat in April in those days) and the word would spread like wildfire. Every trout fisherman in Worc county would go there to stock up before the supply would dwindle, and eventually run out.
He'd carry colors of Roostertails I never knew exsisted.(#$119) But I always took most of my trout on the black/silver and the yellow/gold.

Spag's...wow, there's a place I haven't thought about in a long time. I remember a trip to Spag's seeming like a big deal when I was a kid, you know, coming all the way from Hampshire County. ;) I don't remember ever buying tackle there though.
As for the original question, usually yellow rooster tails although I almost never fish for trout with anything but a fly rod any more.
