I'm considering throwing a 9 wt intermediate line on my 8 wt rod.
Just looking for feedback from anyone casting this set-up.
Thanks,
Drew

Go for it. I routinely go one weight higher with a floater, and usually one weight lighter with fast sinking lines.

You buy a top-flight rod like Z-Axis for two sound reasons: its fine-tuned, communicative action and advanced engineering that assures you that Sage has matched the rod precisly to its rated line size. When it come to floating lines, any rod that needs to be over-lined to bring out its potential is illustrating to the purchaser that he was dupped into buying an ill-designed product. In the specific case of the excellent Z-Axis, overloading the tip will dull its precision, non-fibrilating tracking and elegant 'transparent' feeling. This is not 'my humble opinion', this is a fact.

Sweet - thanks for the feedback.
I've been using 8 wt lines with it (and loving it) but have a 9 wt floater I'm going to spool up and probably never use....

You are welcome. Regarding the #9 floater; any one who has a great 8 weight needs a robust 9 weight too for wind and big, weighted flies. You will put that line to good use on your next rod.
