I checked it out 20+ years ago when I was in College nearby. It flows through a fairly developed (for Maine) area. At the time it was strictly a springtime put and take fishery. Bear in mine that this was before the implementation of more enlightened fishery management practives up there.
That said, from there you are probably only an hour's or so drive to the Moosehead region (East Outlet, Moose river, Roach river), West branch Penobscot and Baxter State Park. Personally, if I were in that area I would focus my efforts on the above listed areas.

There is some nice looking water along 16 ( never fished it) between Kingsbury and Abbott- Supposed to be a nice pond- It seems to me there was a "splake" dispute over it a couple of years ago. Splake is a supposedly infertile hybrid brook trout/laker- aka togue in Maine- in some circles, a good way to start a fight is to talk about splake.
You are within a few minutes othe terrifically frustrating rainbow fishery between Bingham and Solon the Kennebec- wild 'bows that sometimes refuse to be caught. It is a stretch of River where you're better off floating though.
Up above Wyman Lake, you get to the Forks where the Dead River comes into the K from the Rangeley Area- some decent fishing and easy access.
I would cast my vote for the EO/ Moose/West Branch though send me a PM and I'll give you some specifics.:-%
