I am an experienced kayaker with an SOT and was wondering if anyone has any experience launching at Great Harbor and making the trip over to the Elizabeths. My goal would be to shoot directly across the channel to Naushon and then spend my time close to shore around the islands wading/fly fishing. If I try this, should the trip across the main channel be something I time with slack tide? Any insights/warnings/tips for navigating a trip like that would be appreciated.

Yep, done it a couple times. If you like to work your ass off and dodge boats, go for it at mid tide. But if I were to do it again and just interested in Naushon, save yourself the trouble and time the slack. Not only is it less work, but you have a lot more control when you are forced to move by boats. Keep in mind there is a delay in the hole's slack from the reported tide station and the change is abrupt.

Granted the hole is not the safest place on Cape Cod to play in the currents when it comes to boat traffic but the Naushon side has some nice rock piles that create really cool eddies at mid tide. It can be like white water rafting the way tey spin you around and suck you back up to the rocks behind them. You can litteraly sit while pulled to the rock and flip a fly into a 6 knt current with no work at all. Its a fun ride and worth checking out. I would not take a new paddler there.
