My brother in law and I are looking at doing some fly fishing for trout (my idea) and hiking (his idea) at one of the northern Maine sporting camps at the end of August or early September. We would like to bring our own meals to keep the costs down, so we would be looking a housekeeping setup. Does anyone have experience with any of the northen Maine camps at that time of the year with fly fishing? I have looked at the Maine Sporting Camps site but they all look good and somewhat the same. Any information will be appreciated.

im looking at renting a cabin that has a similar settup on the kennebago river. The cabin is inbetween the two lakes and is 25 feet from the fly fishing only river. But im still looking for a cabin so any help would be appreciated as well.

Has anyone been fishing the Jackman area in recent years? In particular, I wonder about Heald Pond; their entry road on the Canadian side of the border must have become problematic.

Check out Wilson's on Moosehead lake. They are located right at the mouth of the East outlet rent decent boats as well. Fished out of there for years and always caught fish. There are excellent remote ponds and the West outlet for squaretails. 2nd week in July should hit the drake hatch;)

Look into Maynard's of Maine in Rockwood. Food is great, cabins clean, people are great and you can't live that cheap at home.
