My insurance company (Met Life) doesn't have provisions for seasonal liability on boats. Since our boating season is only seven months here in NE, its seems a shame to pay liability on the rest of the five months of non-use. Just need to keep fire, damage, and theft for the remainder.

Does anyone have a policy written like that or know of a company? Getting a new boat.... time to trim the fat.

Most policies written for boats have a required "lay-up period". So, in essence you're more or less looking at a premium for the year with a bult in discount in the rate for being off the water for a few months.

Another very important thing to keep in mind is that just because your boat is on dry land in the winter doesn't mean you don't have an exposure. All it takes is one kid going through the yard messing with the stands and if little Johnny gets crushed it won't matter that he brought it upon himself.

Ray I use Blackadar Ins they are in NH. call me and I can answer questions, you might have.
The insurance is never a problem until you need it!
Coverage from April -November lay up in the yard. I figure home owners would pick up if needed. Lets hope we never use it

Your homeowners has very limited coverage for watercraft. Depending on the size of the boat most carriers will endorse the policy to cover the boat, for liability in most cases and physical damage in many as well. You need to talk with your agent to make sure.

Your homeowner's will have a policy limit of $1000 or $2500 on a watercraft. I would check your policy before assuming you are covered. If you have a problem it will be way more than $2500 for just about anything.

Agents pretty much all end up in the same carriers for coverage so saying that one agent is cheaper is probably not accurate. You are most likely not getting the same coverage. I would read the policy and not rely on what an agent tells you.
