For the record, Colton Fly Reels are made in the US. While I haven't fished one of them, I'd like to, and I'm actually in the market, so I have been following the threads closely.

Their website is here: http://www.coltonfly.com

I doubt it! Their site says no such thing and it would if it were so.

I bought one of the reels last year after talking to Bob F. the owner. I have not been disappointed by the reel.

I am pretty sure they are made in the USA.

The new website should be up in about 2-3 weeks if all goes smoothly. The new site will tell all! As I explained to Mark earlier there are some legal matters going on right now so I can't get into this stuff in a public forum right now. Unfortunately the law doesn't move at the pace I would like it to. Hopefully everything gets resolved before the stress gets me. It is killing me to not speak up but it is not in my best interest right now.

Tight lines, Bob

I just hooked up with Bob and became a "Colton Guy". First, let me say that he's a stand up guy and not a BS artist like so many in this industry. If he says they are made in US... count on it. The reel I just got from him is every bit as good as or better than most out there, name brands included.

Let's understand something... the machine that cuts the reel from bar stock doesn't know wether it's cutting a Colton or an Abel, period. Computerized tolerances are the the same regardless and the material is identical. In addition, the Colton anaodizing is supurb and the drag system may be the best out there.

Take a GOOD look at the reels on the "other" sites. They aren't even close to Bob's reels. His first series of reels have 2 rows of round holes, not one like the others. His second series of reels have arrow shaped holes all pointing down, not alternating like the others.

Last point... Bob gives a Lifetime warranty on all his products. As he said to me, "I don't care if you stick the rod in a ceiling fan." I can't believe the guy is in business just to mail out replacement products for inferior stuff that won't hold up. Can't wait to tie into an Albie with my new 10 wt setup.

Has anyone tried out their rods? How do they cast?

Bob, What type of drag design/materials do you use in your reels?

Another big vote for Bob's stuff. He hooked me up with a 4 pc 9 wt Leviathan series and reel. GREAT set-up I used last week for small tarpon and permit. It was overkill on teh small bones we caught but easily handled the 15-17 lb permit and even a 50ish tarpon that got into the deep channels. BIG thumbs up in all areas. BTW, I hope Bob's following this thread and will tell me when he's getting me that 20 wt :brow ...
