I hit one of the western LI bays on saturday morning looking for the big schools of bass that were there 2 weeks ago.

The fish were there, at least the blues were, and in big, big numbers. I didn't make too many casts without a hit. I don't think I have ever been in an area and marked so many fish on the fish finder before.

The fishing was fun for an hour, then I tried not to catch them and had some spectacular hits. After a while I moved around hoping to find some bass or weaks. I found a some bass, but no weaks and never escaped the toothy marauders.

There were too many blues for it to be fun, definitely catching and not fishing, no talent necessary. I'm hoping the blues spread out before the big kayak tourney. I went through quite a few hogys.

Fished Raritan Bay Saturday on a friends boat, chunking is NOT my thing, but when on someone else's boat you do what they do. We snagged some bunker ( more fun than chunking ), and anchored up and had 3 stripers 36" -29" and non stop blues, atleast 25. After I couldn't take it any more we tried casting and jigging--127-3---127-3- for a couple more short stripers.

I love to hear that the fishing is picking up in the western sound. You are getting my blood going... I need to get out there and check it out. Thanks for the posts!

You can crush the blues from the beach at Demo/RM. Access is four wheel drive and permit. Fish are between 5 and 12 pounds. Most are on the large side. You can land as much as you want, every cast for hours at a time. It's been going on for more than a week.

The fish will take just about anything. Most are being caught on tins and poppers. Have not seen anyone with a fly rod. If I can get out later today, I will only fish fly. Fly casting conditions from the shore on the inside of the point are perfect as well as not too many other fisherman. Yesterday (Sunday) I went there to find only a handful of guys working the schools.

I caught three bass earlier in the week east of the inlet on the sand beaches. All were shorts.
