Still massive schools of bunker around, moving north and east from the mouth of Hempstead Harbor, where they were in the middle of last week. Found pods of blues to 9 lbs. swirling the surface while slurping sand eels less than 100 yards from some of the big bunker schools. Provided great topwater action on flies and plugs.
But I'm curious why blues would go after sand eels when tightly packed schools of bunker (which presumably are a larger and more efficient meal) are available very close by. :confused:
Maybe it was a like a brunch buffet, and the blues were doing what I do -- loading up on some of everything. :brow
