Riverhead with a fly rod

I'll be visiting riverhead this holiday weekend staying at a friends from 7-2 until 7-5. During that time I will have at least a couple of 2-3hour blocks of time to fish. I do all my fishing in the salt with the fly rod in the boston area so I have no idea what options I have in Long Island, although I've certainly heard it can be amazing.

I've done a bit of searching, but I'm hoping someone here can point me (PM is fine) in a direction to hookup from shore on the fly (stripers or blues work for me). My preference would be a short drive given my time will probably be limited to 3hours.

I don't know how it's been fishing but when I'm in the area I always see people fishing at the cable crossing area at Orient Point. It's the bitter end of the North Fork.
