Hello All:
I am going to the Yucatan on Saturday and will be staying at Soliman Bay. I don't plan to get a guide because I don't have anyone to fish with (and while my wife is an avid CO trout fisherwoman, she prefers the shade of a palapa and a good book to 8 hours on a panga)
Can anyone recomend some good (and safe) places for fishing from shore. How's the area around the bridge on the Boca Pailla road? What about the beach for miles south of the Tulum turnoff?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
John in CO

Plenty of access south of tulum along the boca road. Take a bunch of chart/white clousers #2 and you'll be in good shape. Also take some wire leader as well for the toothy creatures. good luck and have fun.

There are bonefish in the bay where you are staying. I have heard of people having hassle whilst fishing there, but I didnt. Take some weedless flies, its mainly coral in that bay. Watch the surface for dorsals just tipping the surface close in. The best flat we found is well known. Access is about 400-500 yards before boca Palia bridge to the right of the road as you head south. Wade in, it is a bit deep, follow the mangroves round to the left and you will find a flat with plenty of bonefish on a rising tide. Also some permit come onto this flat, but seem to stay deeper. Dont forget to obtain a liscence every day as you enter the park (in the gatehouse to the right as you go through the arch). Have fun its a wild place. Be safe. pm me if you want more info.

Sorry, I think I'm too late with this, but on the off chance you are checking RT while on vacation- WHAT ARE YOU, NUTZ!
Sorry- In any case, you might consider a guide, either at the Boca Paila lodge or through your hotel, as this is "off-season" and a half-day guide could be quite reasonable, especially with all the specials the lodges are running. Your wife could relax under the Palms at BP while you fish, or you could both fish a half day and relax together.
Good luck, sorry I didn't see this until now.
