Any feedback out there on the Loomis Cross Current 15wt? Giving some thought to picking one up for my tuna outings in Mexico but would like to hear what others have to say about that particular rod...?

I just got one and it's a great rod. have not fought a tuna yet but have compaired my loomis to my friends Scott and sage 16wts and decided without actualy catching a fish on any of them that the loomis by far has the better hardwear but a Scott or a sage offers alot nicer finish too there rods. as far as fish fighting is concerned I have no idea because all the times I've tried for tuna I've failed but at least I know I'm not bring a knife to a gun fight

Mark,
That rod is a beast. My friend did a 68" fish on it this spring. However, if you aren't tied to loomis for this rod the Biscayne bluewater rods are really sweet. Not sure of the size tuna you are targeting but they offer a couple differnt sizes. I know Jeff Smith has done a ton of fish on that rod and I have done a few. Very light in the hand and an excellent casting tool which is required for our bluefin fishery when targeting quick moving blitzing fish. We are generally not bait and switching or using chum.

Mark,

I can get the 15wt Loomis Cross Current for $270 brand new which makes it pretty tempting.
I wish it would fit in my various 4pc rod carriers for ease of travel but I may have to overlook that aspect in light of everything else. I would likely only use a rod of this size for less than 20 days a year so I have to let economics enter into it a bit.....but still want something functional.

Mark,
If you consider 20 days of fishing per year light use I am more envious than ever of your apparent lifestyle :) For that price I would get the Loomis all day. I believe Jeff Cardenas used that rod on Jeff's boat end of last year as well on a 60+ inch bluefin.

My bills don't get paid unless I get out there and shoot the photos and I mainly shoot fishing and tropical lifestyles. I'm just back four days ago from two weeks of fishing in Alaska and leave tomorrow on another trip. Sleep deprivation becomes the norm after a while :(
However, Fall in Mexico typically means decent YFT and I've shifted my focus this year to more fly and less conventional tackle, hence the interest in a fly rod that I can really pull on (I'm not even slightly interested in light tippets).

Mark....here is the pic of the tuna that the Loomis tamed. The stick held up but I almost did not. Sean gives a good motivational speech !! About 40 minutes using the Loomis and a Pacific Reel. 70lb leader !!
Where can one find your photos? Would love to see them.

ah, now we're on the same page! I've yet to get the urge to fish light leader/tippet for big fish - I'd much rather PULL on them.
I'll check your profile for an email address and send you some pix, I don't post them on web forums anymore as they started to end up on commercial sites that didn't see any harm in stealing images and promoting their products with them. At any rate, Garmin/Contender/Outside Magazine/Marlin Magazine/Mexico Bureau of Tourism/Orvis/Bomber Lures/Delta Airlines/American Express/Etc. have all used my images in ads in the recent past. For a brief overview, you can check out www.markpix.com but that isn't really tailored to the fishing market as much as a general commercial audience.
I'm currently away from home and will be resuming this afternoons shoot in an hour (I rarely shoot mid-day) but I'll email you some pix in a few days when I get back home.

I am curious about how the Loomis 15# compares to the Cam Sigler 4pc 14# and/or 16# rods?
I like the looks of the Cam Sigler travel rods, because they fit in my 4pc case. They look, from photos, to be well made, and decently priced. Anyone have any experiences with them?

Whoa ... those are some truly spectacular shots Mark! I can see why they pay the bills.
