We're trying to plan out next year's family vacation that will fit in my mid summer school break (late June/early July) and the Bahamas came up as one possibility.
My question is, if we were to chose the Bahamas and decided to go to one of Nassau/Grand Bahama resorts for a more family orientated vacation, is the bonefishing generally ok there...or do you need something more in line as Abaco for a good bonefish experience?

-The bonefishing is killer.

If you can't find him call the marina.
If you're looking for exceptional bone fishing, then the Abacos, Andros, Long Island would be your top choices.
However, there is some decent bone fishing to be had on both Grand Bahama, and Nassua I'm told. I've never fished either, and only been there on layovers on my way to another Bahamian location, or one of the more remote out islands. You'll just need to hire a guide to get you onto the fish b/c on both Grand and Nassua, I'm told shore and DIY options are nill.
Just a FYI, some of the "out islands" have resorts as well, and a totally different life style feel as opposed to the more touristy Grand Bahama and Nassau. I've been all over the out islands, and frankly, they are amazing! Like going back in time 50 years in some cases, and civilization is only a 30 minute plane ride away.

Thanks a lot - that would be almost a dream vacation for me(outer islands and a step back in time)...I'd have to see how that sits with my wife and daughter (I know my daughter would like that, unsure about my wife)
There are some AMAZING rental properties out there as well. I'm talking incredibly unique homes, and amazing locations. The bonefish DIY opportunities are excellent. Plus, there something to be said for getting up each morning and looking out at your own 5 mile section of deserted, pink sand beach, where the only footprints are the ones you left the day before.:brow
I'd be more than happy to send you a few links to places we've stayed just for your review or future reference.:brow

Grand Bahama was my first bonefishing place on July 2008. The fishing was great and it is a perfect place to your family. I came back this april and I caught many big bones.
