Anyone have any recommendations for this are? I am travelling down there in November and staying at a resort on the beach. I have talked to the resort and they have made it clear that fishing off the beach is allowed, but they do not think there are many fish- I am sure, however, that I can tie into some jacks or other things around the rocks and in the wash.
Thinking of taking a day to book a guide- would like to do tarpon/bonefish/permit/flats but if there is a nearshore fishery for tuna or other things that are accessible to fly fishing that anyone knows about, that would be great as well.
Any advise / experience is greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

I don't think the beaches will produce much for you. However, the lagoon side does have some baby tarpon.
There are a few guide services that will pick you up at your hotel and drive you out of Cancun to thier base camp (about 45 minute trip) that allows access to mangroves and flats fishing.

I'd expect to find fish along the beaches, particularly in the morning and evening. There are a lot of past threads on this forum, and others that talked about fishing in this region. If you check out some of them, you might be able to gain insight into the specific area you're headed to.
I've fished the beaches south around to Tulum before and had a great time- jacks, bonefish, baracuda, etc. Take a lot of white/chart # 2 clousers and you'll be fine. South of Tulum there is the Boca Paila. There are outfits that do guided flats fishing trips on the flats there. Wish I was headed to MX!

Definitely watch for big snook cruising the beaches right at the ebb line. Certainly going down to Boca Paila will give you the best chance as there are not any people to scare the snook off the beach. --127-3-

Hey there guys,
Sorry to jump on this thread, but how's the fishing around New Years?
I had heard from Rodman, last year, that the winter is not really worthwile- so I was not planning on fishing. He had said that there are tons of guides- but the water's really too cold to get them excited... Is this true???
Is it still worth getting a guide- if so, who?
I throw light spinning- lots of plastics and sluggos...
Would the sails have shown up by then? I heard there is a monster sailfish bite in May...but that's 3 onths too late for me on this trip!
Thanks a ton,
Chris
