Sunday, 9:30 a.m.,
some interesting fish, small bass, blues and 1 albie from the beach. High tide at 0900, then it was all over.
I am hoping that some kind good samaritan picked up my surf bag, shirt and my dog's leash and took them because they were afraid they would get washed away by the surf.
I know, too much to ask.
They were right by the water at the access by the Ocean House. Many trucks and SUV's going by looking for the fish that had left by then. I was the guy on foot with the dog with no leash. Pretty obvious.
Anyway, you can always hope that this band of surf fishermen thought this stuff was abandoned and forgotten and would like to somehow get it back to it's owner.
There were guys with CT, MA and RI plates so maybe someone saw something,
PM me if you can help. Thanks.

I was there two weeks ago and the parking lot up from the Carousel that was open to fisherman free before 9am was blocked off. During the summer I would dump off my kayak behind the bath houses and harbor parking lot sanding put in and drive back up the hill to that lot. I would paddle all the way around Napatree and in towards the reef.

I know Watch Hill is tough for parking. But is there an option to park in the offseason for the kayak angler that wishes to fish during the day?

I have always parked right behind the cabana's there and never had a problem in October/November. I want to do that paddle around napatree myself one of these days. How long does it take approx (I have a regular kayak, no hobie superdrive or anything like that) to get all the way around the point?

Same here, although usually after Columbus Day. Despite all the threatening no parking signs, they don't seem to care after a certain point in the season. The same cannot be said of Watch Hill light, as there is almost always a security cruiser parked at the entrance road to the light.
I believe only those 65 or over are allowed to drive down there.

Great intel about parking. I guess nobody picked up my bag by accident. Too bad, I've been leaving things on the beach for 20 years to go for a walk, swimming, fishing and never had anything stolen. It had to end. Welcome to Coney Island.

I'd guess 20-25 minutes. I've never done it straight so not really sure. Also depends on wind and tide. Make sure you paddle out on an outgoing tide with a wind out of the east and return on the incoming with a wind out of the west. I usually do just the opposite.

any suggestions on where to go, what tides to fish, and what to use from shore this weekend. Staying two minutes from misquamicuit beach. Have fly rod and spinner. Thanks all!!

Why do you suggest paddling against the wind ?

I don't. I was joking because it always seems as if I'm paddling against both when I fish that area, especailly on the way back home when I'm tired.

Sad to say but that's been happening in that area as long as I've been going there [20 years].
Seems worst when the beach buggies from far away are plying the beaches in force.
Usual scenario is a school of breaking fish move down the beach and the fishermen follow leaving plug bags and even rods behind. Come back awhile later to no goods.
Doesn't happen super frequently, but often enough to make it worth lugging your gear.

One time years ago in the middle of the night on Halloween at C-town breachway, I came walking into the parking lot from the marsh to find an irate possy of surf fishers searching for a gear thief. Coming out of the darkness like that made me a prime suspect and we had a tense few words until I opened my trunk to prove my innocence and they apologized. A couple were ready to go without proof. Was a close call.
99 out of a hundred are honest. Trouble is there are more than a hundred guys out that.

The buggies were out yesterday racing from one fast moving blitz to another, but mostly behaving themselves. It's daytime on the weekends that can get dicey with the sand driving crowd. The good news is that most of them disappear at night and they can't drive on rocks (although I'm sure someone's tried it (#$119)).

As for gear, I go pretty light now and carry everything with me on foot. A few tins, bucktails, 3-4 plugs, and lots of rigged sluggos for the rocks. ;)
