I have been on this forum for a couple years and have seen the numerous inquiries and posts about the very limited fly fishing opportunities in the DR.

I am just wondering if anything has changed or if any new possibilities have arisen. I am going to bring my gear no matter what, hopefully I will at least have some shots at jacks or cudas.

FYI, I will be in the Puerto Plata area. On google, I found a guy who posted he had some luck in the Sosua area and another guy who said you can pretty much flag down a local in his boat and hire him to find fish.

It has been almost 4 years, since I caught a bonefish and WOW am I ever in withdrawal. Too bad I had no input in the choice of destination for this trip.

I'm normally a hardcore fly fisherman, but when I was in the DR at Punta Cana, I took a spinning outfit. I would walk the beach in the morning and cast a spoon as far out as I could. Reel it in to keep it on the surface and you'll get hits from jacks, spanish macks, etc. Otherwise, you're going to spend a lot of time blind casting a fly, fighting the surf, etc.
By the way, I leave for Andros on Sunday so I'll catch a few bones for ya!

Crusher, you lucky son of a *****! I was kind of hoping my wife would veto the DR trip because a Bahamas destination was a very likely plan B. Long Island most likely. But thanks for the tip, good luck on Andros.

ahh... never mind. plan B is now in effect! It's not the Bahamas, but it is Mexico Mayan Riviera so I know I have a much better shot at some bones!
