How have the outer beaches been (fly) fishing and is the water clean? My father is on the Cape this week and is having a tough time getting into fish. Any help would be appreciated. He is located in the Harwich area. He does have access to a boat but prefers fishing from the shore. Thanks ahead of time.

Nauset, north of the town beach lot, was ok for schoolies this past Sunday until sunup anyway. Didn't get anything on the fly but most were hitting 70-80 ft offshore on plugs, beyond my flycasting range. Had one obviously heavier fish that was poorly hooked and got off.
No mung at all, yet. If I don't oversleep, I'll probably try it again early tomorrow morning.

I've been fishing the outer beaches last weekend and during the week with little or no luck (using eels, sand eels and macks). Sunday I tried the bay side up past Wellfleet - I should have been fishing there all along. Caught quite a few 34 - 36" blues and a couple of 35'+ stripers. I got there late so I only got the last 2 hours of outgoing; once the tide changed, that was it. A friend who owns a boat was out Sat & Sun and said there are more fish large and small than he has ever seen but they are not coming in to the outer beaches; way, way too much bait offshore (sand eels).
This guy catches more keepers than anyone I know and even he got skunked the past couple of weekends.
