Greetings!
I have been lurking since last fall (after I boat my power boat) as I want to become more than a "novice" fisherman. I traded a sailboat for a powerboat (1984 wellcraft V20) last fall as I was using the boat more for fishing than sailing, so even the wife thought it was a good idea. I have fished off an on for years without catching a keeper striper.
Last Saturday morning, I finally had a window where I could take the boat out. I trolled at the mouth of the canal by the MMA with an umbrella rig with white\brown shads and caught well over a dozen (too old to keep count), but no keepers. 2 were 27 inches. They were biting on the incoming tide, after the tide turned, sun was higher, they stopped. I also trolled along the canal up to the dike, but the action was nearer the mouth of the canal.
Anyhow, It looks like I will be able to go out Saturday. High tide is mid\later afternoon so I am thinking an late afternoon\early evening outage.
Being that I had pretty good luck near the MMA, I will probably start off trolling there like I did saturday.
I've never been out at dark, the current is pretty strong near the canal, so I am thinking about anchoring and live lining eels in the flats or near the rip if it gets dark. I'll probably just be with my canine first mate, so I would feel safer staying put.
If the bay is relatively calm, I could also consider going to Quicks hole where I hear is good for stripers. I only caught bluefish there last fall. (btw, I love catching\eating bluefish, just need to catch a big striper and I loved that bluefish vs striper thread).
Advice is surely welcome!
BTW, what's a good bait shop near buzzards bay\wareham for live eels; cape cod charlies?
Thanks!
