Great Forum! Very up to date and informative.
I will be a first time visitor to the Cape in mid July. I will be shore fishing for whatever is bitting around Kalmus beach (Hyannis) or wherever I have to drive to find fish.
I would greatly appreciate any info on fishing locations and techniques in that area. I'd love to wake up every morning and catch fish close to home.
I will also be looking to book a guide boat one of the days. Anyone know of any good ones, or ones I should avoid. Please feel free to email me personally.

I don't get down quite as far as Hyannis, but since it's a short drive here are a few suggestions:
Waquoit Bay Jettys (almost a sure bet in the A.M.);
Green Pond Jettys (Same as above);
Barnstable Harbor flats (near low water you can walk almost to the channel - See my 6/26 CC Bay report and my 6/28 Report. Just be careful when the tide comes in people have gotten stranded !!);
The mouth of Bass River (Out going tide in the A.M. or Dusk);
RE: Local guides, please see the attached link.

Hi Terry,
How do you access the Waquoit Jetties???I stay at Falmouth most weekends all summer....How would I get there from Rt. 28????Or do mean from a boat? Any info appreciated.
Thanks, Wally

I have never walked to the jetties myself, although I know several people who have. I believe you access them via Rt 28. There is a parking lot about a 1/2 mile from the jetties. I am told the walk is in soft sand and can be quite a task with alot of gear. It is however well worth the trip when the fish are in. It is one of the best shore spots on the mainland for the little tunny/bonito. Check with Mashpee P.D. for more parking info.

was in dennis port (couple towns east of Hyannis) last weekend. if you're into blues, i caught many from the beach and jetties in the morning and evening around high tide. With a spin rod and popper though- out of reach for the fly rod. fish were breakin all over at times, especially in the morning so i'd think that they'd be accessible further west off hyannis beaches as well.

I've walked to the Waquoit jetties many times. Park early in the AM or after 5 PM in the South Cape Beach parking lot (actually the Mashpee Town Beach lot) to avoid getting tagged and walk approx. 3/4 mile to the jetties. If you want to avoid the soft sand, you can follow the remnants of a paved rd about 100 yds inland and paralleling the shore for about 2/3rds of the way before it also turns to sand.
