I have the opportunity to fish in Venezuala in Sept. I was wondering if any memebers have had any experience here?? I've done some research and the Bonefish are big and they like to eat minnows... Tarpon is good this time of year as well...any information would be greatly appreciated..

I was in Belize in April and I must say I have a new addiction. I havn't been the same since I got home..

Belize is where I got addicted as well and Los Roques is my dream destination. In fact, I am hoping to use my 40th b-day as an excuse to got there, too bad I still have to wait a few years...

From what I have read, it is gummy minnows when they are feeding on the surface (often near the pelicans) and the usual crazy charlie, bitters, shrimp patterns, etc when on the pancake flats.

I fished Los Roques in 2002. There's a variety of habitat you'll be fishing for bones but you won't find huge miles of flats like the Bahamas. The pancake flats are interesting and you'll see some big fish there b/c the are surrounded by deep water. I was fishing a pancake flat and there were so many tailing bones I couldn't decide which ones to cast to. It was amazing. you'll also be able to walk some beaches and see bones and snook literally swimming in clouds of minnows right off the beach. Lot's of pelicans to though and I got my line tangled a couple times when a bone was running with my fly.
You'll also fish the inside of some reef where you'll find bones tailing in the turtle grass in the small breakers.
I actually didn't find tarpon when there but we didn't look for them too much.
You'll probably do an overnight on the mainland, staying in Maiquetia, crazy little town....
