Have not been to M.V. in 40 yrs. Now have RV based in Falmouth. If I go over on the ferry for a day, how light should I travel (gear). I want to fish Lobsterville Beach. Is it easy to get from Vineyard Haven out to Gay Head???Are there buses, would it be an easy bike ride?? Any info appreciated.....Thanks, Wally

Forgot to mention that I fly fish!!

Your best bet is to rent a car. Lobsterville is a long way from Vinyard Haven. This way, if you can't find fish at Lobsterville (cold day in hell) at least you can go prospecting in other known fishing spots. You should call ahead to reserve a rental on the island, just make sure that the rental agency is in the town where your ferry lands. Last year the rates were about $45 per day. Get a map also.

Good luck

You definitely will need a car on the vineyard-rental or yours is up to you and the steamship authority. Lobsterville is an easy place to fish. Walk up the shore (to the left) and there are fish for the next few miles. The better spots tend to be by "dog fish bar" but that is a good 20/30 min walk.

I fish there a lot and on some nights they won't eat even though they swirl at your feet other nights it's amazing. Sand eels, sand eels, and then try sand eels.

If you want to try other places I would recommend tashmoo but call up Coops bait and tackle and they'll send you in the right direction (508) 627-3909.
Good luck!
