'The Department of Environmental Protection tested the waters and found no evidence of elevated levels of bacteria, algae and chemicals, or reduced oxygen'.

Years ago(1950's 1960's 1970's) it was quite common to have pogies(menhaden) die by the thousands during protracted warm spells. Of course then, we had many more of them every summer. They have been quite scarce since the late 1980s and are just beginning to show up more and more every summer.
In the 1980s it was quite common in Maine for pogies to raft up in coves and bays in shallow waters. When the Bluefish found them they just corraled them and kept them in the cove. Because of warm water and lack of oxygen(according to the biologists), many died .

I understand that fish kills happen for natural reasons but...as I just posted the lack of oxygen was ruled out this time.
Considering the circumstances we should at least be asking the question...are these kills caused by corexit or gulf oil?
No?

didn't you already answer your own question?
'The Department of Environmental Protection tested the waters and found no evidence of elevated levels of bacteria, algae and chemicals, or reduced oxygen'.

I caused by corexit or gulf oil?
No?
grasping at straws with this thought. The pogies have gotten no where near the oil spill and it's dispersents.

No?
Correct, No would be the correct answer. If it was to cause fishkills up north then what do you think would happen the the Menhaden that are down in the gulf? I've been down here for several weeks off and on and have yet to see a dead fish? Common man, enough is enough, Just drop it!!!

uhhh there are numerous reports of fish kills in mississippi...
didnt any of you guys see the numerous models, reports and studies saying the bp gulf oil would eventually enter the gulfstream
onshore didnt u even post some of those studies?
is there any reason we should think that is not now happening or going to very soon?
howza bout those awesome BP commercials ? very effective huh?

Yes, I did. However, I've not seen anything, outside of your posts, to even hint that oil or dispersant from the Deepwater Horizon spill has even shown up in the Atlantic, let alone in NJ or MA.
My sources tell me that the dispersant breaks down in saltwater and will never reach Florida Straits and so far no significant amount of oil has entered the Gulf Stream that can be identified as being from DWH.
Time to go fishing, isn't it?

Fishkills can be caused by the fish themselves as previously hinted....pogies have been known to get stuck in small estuaries where the water cannot support their oxygen needs while school is packed in a small area. this has been one factor used in support of the pogie fishery, as the health effects of thousands of rotting menhaded in a small creek arent exactly positive.
its got nothing to do with corexit. i've seen tons of wildlife throughout the gulf over the last few months and although there are isolated issues here, there is no way its effecting life on such a large scale that far away. give it up!

epa admits they do not test seafood for corexit or its byproducts right?
so how would yer sources even know ?
what is the reason we should disbelieve the studies that showed the loop current poisoning the gulfstream?

u guys are engaged in the most unamerican, juvenille censorship i have ever imagined

Really?? All we're asking for is for you to use a little common sense. The Gulf of Mexico is a very different water body than New England. What in the world would make you think that a fish kill in Mass was caused by Corexit used down in the gulf??? If there were a fish kill in Mass then don't you think there would be large scale fish kills down here were all species were killed or at the very least a gradient of kills along the east coast. Fishkills with pogies happen all the time in all geographic areas. I've seen them from time to time in enclosed water bodies where O2 levels are high enough to support life (>6mg/L is the typical threshold used). Typically they are nutrient rich areas that are deep enough to become stratified, but don't get enough tidal flushing to turn over the water. These kills hapen, but not everyone starts pointing the finger at completely unrelated issues. The artical you posted clearly pointed the finger at drastic increases in water temperature in coastal areas, so why would you jump to the conclusion that it's caused by corexit? OK, I'm done, I'm sure your mind won't be changed, but what I'd suggest is for you to go get some of those fish from the kill and have them tested by an independant lab using GCMS, so that you'll be assured that the kill wasn't caused by Corexit or BP oil.

#1 You call people "trolls" and then claim we are juvenille.
#2 "over freakin flly fishing" but how many of your posts are about flyfishing? reports or discussion of flies or helping another flyfisher with technique? You keep posting about various aspects of the oil spill.
People are going to disagree with you, it is normal, get over it and stop trying to beat a dead horse.

Ummm I am posting in the conservation forum right? Whats the purpose of having an ecology forum if I'm supposed to talk about flies?
You guys have to do some real intellectual acrobatics to argue the BP leak is not relevant to fishing.
What is the difference between my posts and the dozens Onshore posted re BP?
i didnt call anyone juvenille i said the intellectual bullying is juvenille. i didnt even call anyone trolls ...i said essentially 'trolling is not going to convince me of yer argument'
does anyone know what trolling is?
following my posts across multiple forums just to make rote contradictions and comments about how i should be fishing instead of posting is not 'disagreeing' with me
i have made numerous attempts to engage in a real dialogue on the issues. the latest being this question:
'what is the reason we should disbelieve the studies that showed the loop current poisoning the gulfstream?'
fitzy...i didnt jump to the conclusion it was corexit at all...i would in fact agree its very unlikely..I suggested maybe we need to start ....uhhh testing? looking ? asking questions?....something killed those fish
the larger point is that the oil and corexit did not just disappear and the ecological consequences are just beginning

You have posted seven of the 15 posts made to this thread and repeated yourself, ad nauseum. No one is going to debate this with you on this forum so, why not stop beating that dead horse?
As the moderator suggested, why don't you post an occasional piece about fishing, fly tying, tackle or other fishing related subjects? there may have been a couple but, I cannot recall one of your posts on those subjects or any other that was positive in any manner.

This a clear case of calling other posters names. These are your words.

Your the one that brought up the topic of flyfishing.
Enough of this nonsense. Thread closed.
