After all the storms and wind of late, it looked too nice today not to get out. Finished up some work, checked the tide charts and talked my wife into an afternoon fishing trip knowing that tomorrow was going to be another blowout. Plan was to get out around 2:30 and fish the top of the outgoing until 5 or so, with the north bar targeted for bass. Left on schedule and as we headed out the inlet and took a right along Gin Beach, we immediately noticed 1000's of birds circling right above the shore line about half way to shag point. There were also several jeeps running up and down the shore and plenty of surf guys casting-----a definate sign that something was up or had been up. Anyway we waited patiently for 5-10 min and then decided to head to the point per the plan. However, just as I got going........ my wife said to turn around fast. What we thought was a bass boil errupted along gin beach shoreline. One we got there, it was all albies! Second cast was a nice fish, biggest of the year at 11 lbs on the boga. Before long, small pods of albies were all over gin beach , from shag to the inlet jetty and from shore out to 200yds. As the tide started runnning, the Albies worked there way closer to the jetty/bell buoy, and by 4:30 we were fishing near Colloden. We didnt hook anything but albies, no blues and no stripers. Finished with 5 really nice fish, all 10-12 lbs and dark dark green. All caught on a size 4 rhody chovy tied with tan bucktail and gold flash as opposed to copper/bronze. Hear there are still albies on the north side of Gardners too.
Clearly, the best action of the fall for us. Lots of fish everywhere and no problem hooking up. Hope the big blow tomorrow doesnt ruin it!

That sounds like heaven on Earth! Glad you got into them. Perfect timing for sure with the weather coming, too!
A school of albies alone is a little rare, no?

Brendan,
That was an awesome video. You have a huge advantage as you can come out of MMB and make a right and go right to the fish even on a day like today. If I wanted to do the same thing I would need surgery by the time I got over there............:brow ;). Those reels look sweet indeed I assume they are AR reels? What were they eating today for you? Probably didn't really matter as it looked like they were in full feed bag mode. Any teeth mixed in??? How about the bass??? Man I really was jonesin' bad watching that video.

yea man, I was just giving you a hard time!!
yes, A/R with and extra drag mode if fish is really steaming.
Bass up earlier, very few boats. Bluefish only around bass neaar point.
pretty small epoxies as water is so clear. That probably wont last after today!
Tat Johhny Huff can fish like nobody's buisness. My client Carmen brought him. He brought that reel from his shop Streams of Dreams in NJ. Also, that new T and T "RED TNT" rod. thing is really really sick
