Hello Guys,
I recently purchased a 8 foot skiff to play around in. Do you know where/how etc. to put oarlocks on a skiff?
thanks,

Easy really. Oarlocks should be positioned 8-14" aft of the rowing station ( back edge of center seat usually.) depending on arm length, height etc. As to how to install, through bolts are the only way IMHO. You don't want them ripping out when you lean into it. Been there, still remember that!
There are several types/designs of oar lock sockets ( get straight 1/2" D vice 5/8"/ tapered as they are more universal)that mount either on top of the gunnal or on the inside. Depending on your boats configuration/material, you mightneed to add some small shims of plywood/oak to get a solid mounting surface. Make sure your Oar Lock (part on oar) match the hole D on the socket. Otherwise they will be very noisy.
www.jamestowndistributors.com has a excellent selection if needed.
