Was on the capeside jetty noon to 3PM Sunday (high tide). Plenty of fishermen, no fish. Skunked at the boat basin bulkhead previous Friday evening. Saw bait in the canal. I'm a spinning guy and I threw lures top to bottom. Bait guys were not getting it done either.

Haven't fished this year as much (mixed up priorities), but don't see many posts here on canal action. Are any of you doing well down there? The few times I have gone have been unproductive.

Haven't fished the Canal for at least two weeks now. It's been slow for most people that I've talked to, and the consensus reason seems to be lack of bait to hold the fish in for any length of time.

This should change real soon as the juvy pogies/herring and spike mackerel start to show in better numbers and hang around.

Notice that what success Scott has had came at night. The people that are catching fish (which are few) in the canal are putting in long hours at times most sane people have lon g gone to bed.

You have more patience than I do. 3 hrs of no activity is about the limit of my endurance ;-). As for night vs. day. I gave up mid-summer day fishing in the Canal a long time ago. It's seldom productive.

Best news is that it sounds like the bait is on the increase there.

I hear ya on the R & R. Sometimes you just want to take advantage of the furlough ;-).

Great news on the splashing fish/bait. Looks like it's finally time to sharpen up those Crippled Herring hooks...
