I am going flyfishing to Guanaja of the coast of Honduras to catch the new worlds record Permit, Bonefish and Tarpon. Having NEVER fished for any of these species before I find myself in need of a little help. I am looking for anyone who has fished there before. I will not have a guide but will have a boat and rather than driving in circles all week I need to narrow down where to fish, other than the obvious (in the ocean stupid). Also any general information that will help catch each of the above. Thanks and a special thanks to Foulhook for putting me onto this site.

To pretty much guarantee success, fish in the river mouths. There are a few of them. They hold Tarpon, Snook, Jacks, etc.

There's also huge areas of flats. Bones everywhere. Permit too.
Since you've never fished for any of those species, good luck breaking 3 world records.

I haven't fished Guanaja but have fished Roatan and Utila DIY. The bones were smaller and lots of schools. Pretty easy fishing just found flats, waded out and they all had bones. Normal stuff like crazy charlies and gotchas were all we used. We also caught baby tarpon in lagoons at Utila and some bigger tarpon at night under dock lights. Didn't find any tarpon on the flats but we only had access to a row boat for fishing the lagoons, all of the ocean side fishing was wading shallow bonefish flats. Didn't see any permit.

Having fished there prior to major damage from hurricanes, 'I gotsta know' did you attain a Grand Slam?

Just got back from Guanaja. Stayed at Gramahs place. Nice cabins, great food, can spot bonefish from the restaurant. Big bones, not in big numbers but great sport. Some permit, caught one, lost 2 in a week. Recommended!

Good mon! What size was the permit, single or schooled and how many did you not catch?

First, sorry about my bad spelling. English is not my language. :)

Mostly scools of 3-6 permits. Had 2-6 shots every day. My whife lost a 20 punder, the biggest fish we spotted the hole week.

Permit was not so spooky compared to Belize, is my impression. The fish i caught was about 6-7 pounds. Fly was bauer crab olive.

Some guy was kiting every day in parts of the flats (#$114) and I believe it was a reason we did not see as many permits some days. Used kayak to get to other parts of the area where we spottet more permits.

Was kidding about the records but will try for all three. I leave on July 8th.

Try and get hold of the two books on permit fishing by the late and very great Jack Samson. Both have tales about the place you are going to, sounds like he really loved the place. Essential reading for any flats fisherman anyway.
