fishing tackle for Trevally
I'm looking to go to hawaii later in the year and I'm looking to get some lure fishing rods and reels for trevally. Any thoughts would be welcome.
First thought are a temple fork spinning rod 9ft 4 piece designed for weights Lure Wt. : 3/4 - 2 1/2 oz. and lines to 25lb with a shimano calcutta 400.
would this outfit be suitable?

Wow, the tackle you use is going to depend on the size fish your after.

If your just walking the shore line, a lot depends on what island your on. Oahu is not the place to cast lures for larger fish. Just regular spinning or bait casting tackle for fish 5 pounds and under is fine. (mostly way under 5 pounds)

If your on some of the other islands the chance for bigger fish is better. On Molokai, we've landed 15 pounders from shore and 50 to 80 plunders from a boat fishing with Capt Clay.

Check out the Mark White lures page for Kauai fishing... he has lots of videos of GT fishing.

We fly fish the flats and use 8wt rods, which is usually fine for bone fish and GT.

When we go to Christmas Island it's the 9000 series spinning reels and custom 7 foot rods... 80# test braid line. Lures the size of a coke bottle. I have some pictures on the web site... Hawaii Bass Fishing.
