Not sure if I'd call it 'fast and furious', but there are plenty of reef critters around just about any rocks/coral in front of a beach. They will hold small yellowtails, triggerfish, what I believe to be grunts (Sorry - colorado guy :) ), etc. I've even caught (very small) grouper and (quite large) mangrove snapper just screwing around.
With bait and spincasters, it's probably even better than with clousers.
Best,

3/8-3/4 oz bucktail jigs tipped with conch will catch anything (incl. bonefish, they're on the reef too). If you can bring the rod(s), I'm guessing you can find almost any kid to run them out to the reef. That how my parents used to "lose" me when they wanted to "take a nap" :brow. You'll probably want to go with them the first time just to make sure it's safe, but they'll want to go solo after that.
If you don't have equip, then it's handline time, which is lots of fun. If you have access to saltwater tackle, a 100' "bracelet" of 20-30 mono, some 1/2 oz egg sinkers, swivels and a dozen 2/0 circle hooks is all you need (maybe bring some smaller hooks to catch bait). If you want to get super-authentic, set the whole rig up on a Folgers can. And you can leave it behind for the "guide" and make his (or her) year!
