Hit the mouth this am @ 5:30 to find terns and gulls working over the sand bar. This lasted for at least an hour. Alas I was shore bound and could only watch. I headed toward the jetty where the terns and cormorants were working in the corner. A ton of bait mostly sand eels and some larger fish which I couldn't identify. As luck would have it I saw some "nervous" water moving towards me. A quick cast and a hit and a miss. Another fellow walked up threw a plug and immediately tied into a 27" fish. I threw another cast and bang had its twin. A couple of more hits and c-ya no more fish. I switched flies a couple of times and a large grocery fly 3/0 did the trick. The venerable olive/white half/half bombed out. I walked up to the jetty and there was huge schools of sand eels packed against the shore. As I watched bass would come plowing through gulping them down. I tried a few more casts but no luck. Headed back to the car and watched another flock of gulls go crazy in the middle of the river with white water underneath. These moved rapidly out the mouth with the tide.

Tight lines.
