Went out of Barstable Harbor yesterday about 5 am with Jim Ellis of Haystaddle Guide Service. It was just after high tide and the water was as smooth as glass and the no-seeums were everywhere. They were brutal. When we got to the flats a west wind came up driving the bugs away and the fishing was terrific for about 2 hours. Smallish striper on virtually every cast..... all were 18" to 25", nothing big buts lots of fun. On the fly rods we used sand eels and white/chartruese deceivers. With the spinning gear it was chartruese sluggos, no other color worked as well. There were no large schools visible you could cast to and no bait showing, but the stripers were there. Only an occasional bird or 2 or 3 appeared then left. The wind then switch to the North West and finally the North. As the tide went out the water was increasingly rough with good sized rollers and we decided to fish in in the harbor, but we found nothing. All in all a short but very good day,
