The river was loaded with fish Sunday morning. I lost perhaps my best fish of the year. Terns, sandeels and stripers everywhere. Bluefish showed up to make the party complete.

Were the blues mixed in with the stripers or were they outside the mouth? We didn't see any on Saturday and may be going out again this Friday.

Al,

I am guessing that the blues are on their own out by the mouth. I didn't actually land the one I had on but there was no mistaking the first screaming run and clean cut off.

Someone at work this morning confirmed they are around as they boated quite a few on bait. The river was loaded with sandeels and tinker macks.

SSully,

Figures that the one time I stay in bed late to catch the outgoing at around 9:30 am, the river is loaded with fish. With all the boats anchored by 9:30, I was forced to fish just off Woodbridge and not even close to can 11. Caught a ton of schoolies though. Heard about a women who caught a 35#er near the PI bridge. Thanks for the info on the blues...will dig the wire out.

Forget sleeping in, you have all winter for that. ;-);

My past experience has taught me to forget the tides at this time of year and go before the sun comes up. Less people and boats. If the tide is in sync some much for the better.
