I am a northwest-er who monitors and occasionally contributes to this site because during college and med school and internship in Boston and Providence in the 60's and 70's I learned to love both stripers and salt water fly fishing, and returned to Oregon specifically so I could pursue trout, salmon, and steelhead AND stripers in the Umpqua.
Now I return to the Cape every year with friends and introduce many northwest fly clubs to the NE fisheries with slide shows.
I have reservations for 2-3 that need filling on the live-aboard Avalons (www.avalons.net) boat in the Jardine de las Reinas archepeligo south of Cuba for the week starting April 14th (see Fly Fisherman magazine, George Anderson's article in '99);
The cost including flight to Cancun and transfers will run @ $4000 total. This is, short of the Seychelles on the other side of the globe, literally, the best flats fishing for bones, permit, tarpon, etc, anywhere, and a culturally unique trip.
This group is experienced in international salt (and fresh) water fishing, but laid back and low key and focused only on enjoying the experience, NOT on setting any personal or other records or proving that their testosterone levels are higher than anyone elses's. Competitiveness or envy if someone catches a bigger or more fish is inappropriate.
I thought as long as I was beginning to recruit strangers that it would be fun to meet and fish with someone from the NE that shares our striper/bluefish//false albacore obssession and experiences.
Infinitely more information available at both www.avalons.net and by contacting me at fujii@rio.com personally.
