Hello,

Based on a response I'm reposting this here (from the Travel Forum).

I'm planning on a trip down thru the Canal the 2nd week in August and have become somewhat concerned about using the tides correctly. I know there is a significant difference in current flow depending on the the Highs/Lows on the West and East ends.

Can any of you provide any information or pointers to magazine articles that may help me ?

Thanks in advance,

Peter.

John Silva did an article on the Canal for my site, Fishing New England. You can find it in the features section.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I had actually found that web site and the article you mentioned already.

While it has some nice ideas for fishing the Canal I'm not going to be fishing (unfortunately) when I go through. I'm heading through the Canal down to Newport for a couple of days and then heading back North.

So, what I'm interested in is any information on how to figure the current flow through the Canal (based on the High/Low tides at either end ?). If I can figure the current flow correctly I'm told my passage, at wake speed, through will be lots easier.

So, any information or pointers out there ?

Thanks,

Peter.
