The word is that the Striper fishing is turning on at the pier. I've heard reports that keeper stripers are being taken on a regular basis on bucktail jigs fished right next to the piers and bridges. The Stripers hide under the pier and bridges and ambush baitfish. It's probably the easiest Striper fishing around! There was a report that there was a blitz last weekend.
BigBlue,
In the past you were not allowed to fish closer then a few hundred years at the AmmoPier in a boat as it was a restricted area. Has this changed or are you going in illegally?

The sources I talked to are contractors who work on Fort Monmouth. They were able to get fishing passes that let them go out and fish on the pier. I think you can get the pass at the gate of the base. When you get out to the pier ask for Scott Johnson or Joe McFarland. They are my sources and can tell you all about it. They fish out there every day and can give you tips on how to get the fish. They fish right off of the structure and I don't think that you would be able to get a boat close enough to the pier or bridge to fish. The water is really shallow there for one thing and the security wouldn't let you for another.
That type of fishing has to S*** as the top of the pier is a long way from the water. I don't care how many bass are swimming around it. Would be a nice long cast with my fly rod!!!!!
