Went to the cape for a long weekend (Dennisport.) On thursday afternoon about 5.00 pm I went for a swim. Thousands of tiny baitfish were moving down the coast. I decided to get my kayak to do a little fishing. About 100 yards off shore I spotted lots of birds making a raquet and diving into the water. I paddled over and got into a large school of blues on a feeding frenzy. I landed about a dozen between 3-5 lbs. What a blast. Anyone know what baitfish they were feeding on? They didn't look like herring

Sounds like a great time. Those small bait fish may have been Baby Menhaden aka....(peanut bunker).

Are menhaden also called pogies? These fish were silver with a slight roundness in the belly. They were about 2" long. The school was so thick ,it looked as if you could walk on them.
