View Full Version : Interested in flies for Va&NC

I would like to try my hand at making flies for my area.I have never tryed ting befor but figger if I can make my own serf poles and can work with tiny beads(not that they have any thing to do with fly tying) I will do good at it.So if anyone can let me know where to start looking on the web,I will be greatful Thanks for your time.

Your best bet would be to start out in a flyshop and take a look at some of the accessories that you may already have and what you will need. The mainstays of our flyboxes here in NC and VA are clouser and deceiver patterns, which are more methods of tying than exact patterns. Start with these basics, learn the techniques, then get creative! Flytying is a great hobby, and like anything else it can be a little frustrating in the beginning. Try to get someone to show you the basics, invest in a good how-to book and decent equipment, and you will have a great head start. Good luck on your quest.
