I'm off to Harker's end of Oct. but before that I have a family thing at Holden Beach, below Southport. I don't own a boat (got mentally unstable over it so now I hire boats) but wonder as Redfishing goes, how is it down that way in first part of October? Along the ICW and in the canals should be the habitat, but are the populations up to where I could expect a professional guide to find a few. Would this be a half dozen each for one flyfisherman and one spinfisherman? I'm not asking for guarantee, but if you had to guess, how many would you think a guide could put you on? Actually, we wouldn't care if the guide had to revert to other species just so we caught fish.
Also, any place to wade for anything around Southport/Holden Beach?
This is my son and I so just want a guided trip and then some place to wade (non-surf) when we get a few hours to ourselves.
WOW! Getting psyched for Fall. Time with my son, Harker's... Life is good!

A good guide to check out for fishing around the Wilmington area for redfish would be Capt. Tyler Stone at Intracoastal Angler at 1-888-325-4285(DBL-HAUL). Tyler has been catching good numbers of reds on fly and on conventional tackle. Down in Southport call Capt. Jimmy Price at 1-910-457-9903. Jimmy is strictly a conventional fisherman, but I think that he is booked up for the season, but he can refer you to a qualified guide in the Southport area. If you are interested in reds in the Atlantic Beach area, we have been catching good numbers of 25" to 37" reds on bait. Numbers vary from 2 or 3 up to 15 or 20 fish on a half day trip.

Good Luck where ever you decide to fish!
